Conflicting Screen Time settings

brb uses Apple Screen Time to lock apps. Extra App Limits or Downtime on the same apps can stop that from working cleanly.

Symptoms

Apps you blocked in brb still open. Apps that should unlock after the step goal stay locked. Behavior feels random after you changed something in iOS Settings → Screen Time.

Fix

Use one locking system for the apps that matter. For apps managed by brb, clear the overlapping iOS rules.

  1. Open brb → Block Apps and confirm the app list is correct.
  2. Open iOS Settings → Screen Time.
  3. Remove App Limits for the same apps brb is blocking.
  4. Remove or edit Downtime schedules that overlap those apps if they fight with brb.
  5. Confirm brb still has Screen Time permission enabled.
  6. Force-quit brb, reopen it, or restart the iPhone if iOS needs a sync.

Block at End of Limit

If you are testing Screen Time alone, Block at End of Limit is Apple’s harder App Limit setting. You do not need it on the same apps brb already locks. See the Screen Time guide and the versus page for when Screen Time alone is enough.

Questions

Should I delete all of Screen Time?

No. brb needs Screen Time permission. Remove the extra limits and schedules that conflict, not the permission itself.

Still broken after that?
